Get around South San Francisco without driving alone. Try one or all of these alternative transportation options.

Ride a Bike

Bicycling is an easy and inexpensive way to make exercise part of your daily commute. All bay area public buses have bike racks and bikes are allowed on the San Francisco Bay Ferry, Caltrain and BART. With more bike lanes and bike paths being added each year, South San Francisco is an excellent place to ride a bicycle, whether for leisure or work.

Carpooling

Waze – The County of San Mateo has partnered with Waze to offer discounted carpool matching to everyone living and/or working in San Mateo County. Download the Waze app, schedule a ride, and Waze Carpool will look for the closest Wazer already planning a drive on your route. Find out more at waze.com/carpool

My.Commute.org – provides a carpool matching options.

511.org – provides traffic information, interactive trip planning, mass transit schedules, information on FasTrak and Clipper Card, plus alternate commute options like bicycling and ridesharing.

Public Transportation

Free South City Shuttle - The South City Shuttle provides free service around South San Francisco, with trips to local stores, senior center, libraries, City Hall and parks. The shuttle provides transit connections with SamTrans and BART. Map and Timetable

SamTrans – There are several SamTrans bus lines in South San Francisco including:

  • ECR, that runs from Daly City to Palo Alto on the El Camino Real,
  • 292 running down Airport Boulevard from San Francisco to Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo,
  • 133 running from San Bruno BART up Spruce Avenue to Airport Boulevard,
  • 131 from Downtown South San Francisco to Serramonte Shopping Center,
  • 122 starting from South San Francisco BART to Stonestown Shopping Center in San Francisco.

Caltrain - Caltrain is the regional commuter rail line that runs from San Francisco to San Jose with a stop in South San Francisco. Caltrain offers employees and residents a stress-free alternative to driving.

Ferry – The San Francisco Bay Ferry connects South San Francisco to Alameda, Oakland, and San Francisco. Fares and Timetable
