Participants will work between 20-25 hours per week. Your schedule will be determined by you and your supervisor. We have on-site, remote, and hybrid internship placements.

Participants will earn $19 an hour.

What kind of internship opportunities does YSIP have?

All internship placements will be with one of several South San Francisco departments, including Parks and Recreation, Library, Public Works, Police, Fire, Economic and Community Development, Information Technology, and City Hall Administration. We will attempt to match students with internships based on their interests and availability.

Work may include assistance with special projects, light technical work, clerical work, and basic research and analysis.

Regional Summer Internship Program

Since 2012, the City of South San Francisco has offered paid internships to college students as part of the Two-County Next Generation Committee of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties Regional Summer Internship Program. The Committee of Next Generation’s goal to attract, develop and retain the next generation talent for careers in local government aligns well with the City’s Succession Development initiative, facilitated by Frank Benest, the committee chair.

The internships have allowed the interns to gain invaluable experience, completing various assignments to accomplish their department’s goals. Part of this internship experience involves participation in one of two educational sessions offered during the summer session. The internship program runs from June to September, with internship assignments averaging from 10-12 weeks in length.
