The South San Francisco Police Department Explorer Post #850 is a non-profit organization that is geared towards public service. This is a great opportunity for those that have an interest in policing and/or serving their community. Many Explorers have gone on to have very successful careers in the profession of Law Enforcement and many other related fields.
Membership in this program is open to qualified teens between the ages of 14 - 21. Members must be a resident of South San Francisco or attend a high school in South San Francisco with at least a “C” average in all classes. Those that are 18 - 20 years of age are preferred to be attending college with a minimum of six units.
The purpose of Explorer Post #850 is to teach young people the procedures of the South San Francisco Police Department and other Law Enforcement agencies, to aid the South San Francisco Police Department and its individual members in their duties as Police Officers, and in serving and protecting the public, to promote better relations between police and young people, and to provide services to the community.
The duties of a Police Explorer will include the following, but not limited to; working with the community in Crime Prevention, assisting in Safety Programs, assisting the Records and Communication sections of the Police Department as well as riding with Patrol Officers. Explorers will also participate in extensive training and Academies.
Members of Explorer Post #850 must attend one monthly meeting and spend at least 10 hours a month working at or within the department.
