The City of South San Francisco Parks and Recreation Department is thrilled to present Concert in the Park: Community Fun Fest on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event will take place Orange Memorial Park Picnic Meadow, located on West Orange Avenue at Memorial Drive in South San Francisco. The Main Stage will feature captivating performances by the Grammy Award Winning Dazz Band and musical singing group Blessid Souls of Union.

This year’s festival will feature a day of fun and celebration, featuring a performance stage, a Family Fun Zone, a variety of food trucks, beer and wine sales, and the return of vendor booths showcasing community resources and offering goods from local small businesses. This free, family-friendly event is designed for all ages to enjoy.

“We’re thrilled to have Concert in the Park, a beloved city tradition that brings together thousands of people each year,” said Greg Mediati, South San Francisco Parks and Recreation Director. “This event is truly special, offering something for everyone—from live music and family-friendly activities to a wide variety of vendors and food trucks. It’s a fantastic way for the community to come together and enjoy a memorable day outdoors.”

 

About the Performers

1982 GRAMMY® Winner the Dazz was the first group out of Cleveland, Ohio to win a Grammy Award for Best Performance by a R & B Group or Duo for their smash hit "Let It Whip." Known for their electrifying R&B/ Funk and soulful ballads, The Dazz Band scored over 20 hits on Billboard's R&B and Pop charts. Hits like "Let It Whip", "Joystick", "Swoop", "You Are My Starship", "Heartbeat", "Party Right Here", "Let It All Blow", "Keep It Live", and others stood the test of time and remain in recurring rotation while millions of fans continue to seek out Dazz Band music online and across the globe. They performed on popular television shows like Soul Train, Solid Gold and American Bandstand and their music is featured in countless major motion pictures, television shows and some of the most popular video games today. Led by Grammy-winning saxophonist Bobby Harris, the band has released seven records on Motown and toured with legends like Rick James and Kool & the Gang. In 2024, The Dazz Band welcomes new members, including vocalist Tony Mason and bassist Eric "EQ" Young. Recognized by the Smithsonian and the US Military, The Dazz Band's legacy endures, recently landing at #4 on Billboard’s TikTok Music Chart.

American Alternative rock band Blessid Union of Souls from Cincinnati, Ohio debut their first song Home in 1995, and has since sold millions of records worldwide, consistently creating music that resonates deeply with audiences. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of their iconic single I Believe—which topped charts and was the 4th most played song on radio in 1995—the band’s message of hope and unity continues to inspire. Led by original vocalist Eliot Sloan, along with Brian Lovely, Dan Dorff, David Lessing, and Dave Ramos, the band is in their 9th year of touring. Blessid Union has performed across the U.S. and around the globe, honoring U.S. military troops in Germany, Japan, South Korea, and beyond. After 25 years, their journey—fueled by fans, friends, and unwavering dedication—continues with the same enduring message: Love is the answer.
