The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the City of South San Francisco for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management, according to GFOA.

”We are proud to have received the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 35th time,” said South San Francisco’s Finance Director Karen Chang. “We believe attaining this award reflects City’s commitment to financial transparency by sharing information consistent with the highest standards in governmental financial reporting.”

The GFOA established the award program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles in preparing annual comprehensive financial reports.  The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirt of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

The GFOA is a professional organization serving more than 21,000 government finance professionals across the United States and Canada whose mission is to advance excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research.
