Thank you, South City, for an amazing 2024!

SSF 2024 Holiday Collage This holiday season was truly magical as our community came together to celebrate in style! The mayor and city councilmembers extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, organized, and participated in making these events so special.

  • Tree Lighting Ceremony – We kicked off the holidays with carolers, churros, hot chocolate, and a surprise visit from Santa at our annual Sign Hill Tree Lighting Ceremony.
  • Santa Comes to Town! – Complete with the Elves’ Winter Market, last year’s visit from Santa is one for the books! It was so much fun seeing the joy on the children’s faces as they watched Santa come off the fire truck. The City collaborated with the Chamber of Commerce to provide some festive decorations at City Hall and encouraged downtown merchants to offer marketing and promotional discounts.
  • District Five Holiday Celebration Event - Over 268 children/youth and their parents from around the District 5 neighborhoods participated and took their photos with Santa Claus in this inaugural celebration held at the former Liberty Bank. Several neighbors volunteered and linked arms with us to help make this holiday season merrier for our District Five neighbors. This was an event to show appreciation spearheaded by our mayor with such a beautiful illustration of community.
  • Annual Holiday Toy & Food Distribution - We continued giving back with a holiday distribution event at the Joseph Fernekes Recreation Building. Thanks to our partners: Second Harvest, the YMCA Community Resource Center, and our over 100 amazing volunteers, over 650 families received full holiday meal food boxes, and more than 700 children received toys or gift cards. Thank you to everyone who made this event a success and brought joy to our South City community!
  • Hannukah Menorah Lighting - We invited everyone from the community to gather at the atrium of our Library| Parks & Recreation Center for our annual Hanukkah Menorah Lighting Ceremony, a cherished tradition celebrating the spirit of Hanukkah. With donuts, coffee, dreidels, and festive music, it was a special cultural event.

You all are what make South San Francisco such a special place to be. 2025 has plenty in store for us, and I can’t wait to see you all soon! Here’s to a wonderful new year ahead!
