Hello South San Francisco Community,

Eddie Headshot.jpg

As Mayor and a lifelong educator and former teacher, I’m thrilled to invite our community to the Youth Art Show—a vibrant celebration of our students’ creativity and talent .

Events like these hold a special place in my heart because they spotlight the incredible potential within our schools and showcase the amazing talent of your youth and young scholars.

Come and experience the imagination and passion of our youth through hundreds of visual art pieces by SSFUSD students. Enjoy live performances from the El Camino High School Jazz Band, Civic Ballet students from our Parks and Recreation Department, and the dazzling Mexican Folklorico Dance group.

Let’s come together to support and celebrate the next generation of artists tonight and tomorrow!  Trust me, you will not be disappointed. I hope to see you there!

Christening the New Fire Boat “Industrial” – SSFFD’s Response Time to Marine Fires Decrease by 90%!

Councilmembers with Fire Chief Samson at the Yautch Club holding their certificate from the City Vice Mayor Addiego and Mayor Eddie on the new fire boat

I’m proud to announce that South San Francisco has welcomed a new, state-of-the-art fireboat to our Fire Department fleet—an exciting step forward in strengthening our emergency response capabilities along the shoreline and San Francisco Bay. I had the honor of presiding over the commissioning ceremony, offering remarks and a symbolic blessing with a lemon branch—a tradition wishing protection, purification, and good fortune. Councilmember Flor Nicolas (District 3), followed with the ceremonial breaking of a champagne bottle, officially naming and welcoming the vessel into service.

The City Council and I are proud to approve this important investment in public safety, ensuring our first responders are equipped to protect lives, property, and our environment. Thank you to Chief Matt Samson and the entire men and women who have made this effort happen, and all of my council colleagues, and community and different agencies and fire departments for having joined us on this momentous occasion! ⛴️

Did You Know You Can Volunteer to Care for Sign Hill?

Sign Hill In 2019, the Parks Division launched the Sign Hill Habitat Restoration Project through a Measure K grant with San Mateo County. Since then, dedicated staff and volunteers have spent hundreds of hours restoring this local treasure by planting native grasses and removing invasive species.

Now, we invite you to join the effort and become a Sign Hill Steward! Help protect and preserve this unique habitat by volunteering at community workdays or joining environmental programs. It’s a great way to give back, learn, and connect with nature.

Ready to get involved? Register on our Eventbrite page, complete the Volunteer Application, or email us at mailto:parks.volunteers@ssf.net. Don’t forget to subscribe to the Sign Hill Stewards newsletter to stay updated!
