Military Equipment
On September 30, 2021, Governor Newsom signed Assembly Bill No. 481 into law. This bill requires law enforcement agencies, “obtain approval of the applicable governing body, by adoption of a military equipment use policy, as specified, by ordinance at a regular meeting held pursuant to specified open meeting laws, prior to taking certain actions relating to the funding, acquisition, or use of military equipment, as defined.” The Military Equipment policy was introduced during a public meeting on June 22, 2022 and approved by City Council on July 27, 2022.

On March 17, 2025, the South San Francisco Police Department is presenting their annual military equipment report during the regularly scheduled Commission on Equity and Public Safety meeting. The presentation will address funding, acquisition, and use of items designated as military equipment pursuant to Assembly Bill 481. The presentation will include a summary of Assembly Bill 481, a description of our equipment, and an explanation of how it was used. A copy of our military equipment policy is available at:
