The City has been painting curbs red or installing signs at key areas to help show where the new restrictions apply. There have been new revisions to California Vehicle Code 22500(n)(1)(A): Assembly Bill 413 will prohibit parking 20 feet in advance of crosswalks. Enforcement and citations begin Jan. 1, 2025.

This new restriction applies at both marked and unmarked crosswalks. Unmarked crosswalks exist at any intersection within the extension of the sidewalk to the sidewalk on the other side of the street.

A citation can be issued whether signs or markings are present. Over time the City will be marking locations at intersections along streets with the greatest number of crashes and around schools and senior centers.

People who park in these areas will get one warning before a citation is issued.
