Our Mission

Assisting adults to read better helps their families and our communities.

Project Read helps low literacy English-speaking adults and families to reach their personal literacy and financial goals.

Who We Are

We are adult learners, volunteer tutors, and program staff dedicated to lifelong learning. We assist individuals who live in Colma, Daly City, San Bruno, and South San Francisco.

Programs Offered

We offer free programs to improve the lives of Project Read adult learners. With the help of a volunteer tutor, learners become more independent at home, at work, and in their communities.

One-on-One Tutoring for Adults

English-speaking adults work on improving their reading and writing skills with a trained volunteer tutor to achieve personal learning goals. Together adult learners and volunteer tutors work towards earning a GED, driver’s license, obtain job promotions and more! Adult learners enrich their lives, as well as the lives of their families, by working on their goals.

Learners meet with their volunteer tutor once or twice a week at a neighborhood library, a public place or even online for at least a six-month commitment. Project Read can coordinate in-person or virtual tutoring options for new and current learners and tutors.
