With longtime roots in the community and a lifelong commitment to service, Eddie Flores was elected to represent the historic and diverse District 5 of South San Francisco on the city council. He currently serves as Mayor of South San Francisco.

Mayor Eddie Flores was first appointed to the Council in 2021 to serve in an at-large seat and was subsequently elected by a supportive majority of voters to represent District 5 in November 2022. With his election and initial appointment on the South San Francisco City Council, he is the first Salvadoran to serve on a City Council in San Mateo County, and only the second Latino to serve in South San Francisco’s history. In December 2024, Eddie became the City’s first Salvadoran mayor, and the first Salvadoran-born immigrant to assume the role of mayor in the history of The San Francisco Bay Area.

Prior to joining council, Mayor Eddie was elected to the South San Francisco Unified School District Board of Trustees at-large in 2018. He served as Board President in 2020-2021. Eddie was born in El Salvador and immigrated as a young child with his family due to the civil war. He was raised by a single mother who often worked three jobs to make ends meet for the family. He was the first in his family to graduate from a four-year university. He earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in public policy and public health from UC Berkeley and an MBA from San Francisco State University.

Eddie has been a strong and active member of the South San Francisco community as a former graduate of the South San Francisco Citizens' Academy. He has been a dedicated volunteer throughout the city, formerly serving as a South San Francisco Commissioner of Parks and Recreation. He has volunteered and supported the efforts of the South San Francisco Friends of Parks and Recreation, South San Francisco Friends of the Library, as well as a member of the South San Francisco Historical Society, and San Bruno Mountain Watch.

Currently, Eddie works as Director of Community Relations and Marketing at the College of San Mateo. As a member of the college's executive leadership team, he is responsible for a department overseeing all of the college's public relations, strategic communications, and marketing needs and services. Eddie is also an adjunct member of the faculty at San Francisco State University where he teaches in the MBA program at the School of Business.

Mayor Eddie Flores also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of the PeninsulaLeadership Council of San Mateo County; and on the advisory board of the Daly City Youth Health Center. He is a founding member of the REACH Coalition of San Mateo County. He is a former Senior Fellow with the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley and an active member of the San Mateo Latinx Democratic, San Mateo County Democratic Clubs, and the National Association of Latino and Elected Officials (NALEO).

Mayor Eddie currently serves as President of the League of California Cities – Peninsula Division (which covers San Francisco, all cities in San Mateo and Santa Clara county, respectively). He also serves on the Executive Board of the League of California Cities, Latino Caucus.

In his free time, Eddie is an avid sports fan rooting for the Warriors, Giants, and Cal Bears. He is also an avid runner and enjoys cooking and a certified Level I sommelier. He currently lives in the historic Old Town neighborhood of South San Francisco (District 5).
