Eddie Flores

Vice Mayor - District 5

Eddie Flores

With longtime roots in the community and a lifelong commitment to service, Eddie Flores represents the historic and diverse District 5 of South San Francisco on the city council.

Vice Mayor Flores was first appointed to the Council in 2021 to serve in an at-large seat and was subsequently elected by a supportive majority of voters to represent District 5 in November 2022.

Prior to joining council, Vice Mayor Flores was elected to the South San Francisco Unified School District Board of Trustees at-large in 2018. He served as Board President in 2020-2021. During his tenure, he graduated from the California School Board Association's Masters in Governance in 2019 and served as an elected delegate at-large for the California School Boards Association (CSBA) and the California Latino School Boards Association (CLSBA).

Flores was born in El Salvador and immigrated as a young child with his family due to the civil war. He was raised by a single mother who often worked three jobs to make ends meet for the family. He was the first in his family to graduate from a four-year university. He earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in public policy and public health from UC Berkeley and an MBA from San Francisco State University.

Flores has been a strong and active member of the South San Francisco community as a former graduate of the South San Francisco Citizens' Academy. He has been a dedicated volunteer throughout the city, formerly serving as a South San Francisco Commissioner of Parks and Recreation. He has volunteered and supported the efforts of the South San Francisco Friends of Parks and Recreation, South San Francisco Friends of the Library, as well as a member of the South San Francisco Historical Society, and San Bruno Mountain Watch.

Currently, Flores works as Director of Community Relations and Marketing at the College of San Mateo. As a member of the college's executive leadership team, he is responsible for a department overseeing all of the college's public relations, communications, and marketing needs and services. Flores is also an adjunct member of the faculty at San Francisco State University where he teaches in the MBA program at the School of Business.

Vice Mayor Flores also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula; Leadership Council of San Mateo County; and on the advisory board of the Daly City Youth Health Center. He is a founding member of the REACH Coalition of San Mateo County. He is a former Senior Fellow with the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley and an active member of the San Mateo Latinx Democratic, San Mateo County Democratic Clubs, and the National Association of Latino and Elected Officials (NALEO). He also serves on the Board of the League of California Cities, Latino Caucus.

With his election and initial appointment on the South San Francisco City Council, he is the first Salvadoran to serve on a City Council in San Mateo County, and only the second Latino to serve in South San Francisco’s history.

In his free time, Flores is an avid sports fan rooting for the Warriors, Giants, and Cal Bears. He is also an avid runner and enjoys cooking and a certified Level I sommelier. He currently lives in the historic Old Town neighborhood of South San Francisco (District 5).
