The Information Technology Department is responsible for providing centralized automated information processing, telecommunications, and network services to all departments and divisions within the City of South San Francisco. The department provides project management, technical support, and assistance with the development and implementation of new systems.
The IT Department streamlines and facilitates citizen interaction through the City’s e-government initiatives and gives them the ability to access a variety of information 24 hours a day. Via the Internet, citizens can view GIS maps, watch live and archived City Council and Planning Commission Meetings, check the status of their permit or plan inspections, download forms for licenses and permits, sign up for email notification services, and much more.
Goals and Objectives
- GIS (Geographical Information System)
Set up and educate staff on usage of the tools.
- LaserFiche
Provide leadership, maintenance and structure for the existing departments. Bring one additional department online. (Pending Funding)
- External Services
Continue to provide service to external clients e.g., the Airport Noise Abatement Project, the Water Quality Control Plant, and the Town of Hillsborough, and investigate potential new client opportunities.
- Disaster Recovery
To review the servers and see if we can consolidate them using Virtualization. This will help us be more “green” and maybe more efficient.
- Strategic Plan
Update the current Information Technology Strategic plan.
