Arbor Day
The
first Arbor Day in America took place on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska. It
was thought that the landscape and economy would benefit from the wide
scale planting of trees for orchards, shade trees, and wind breaks.
Today all 50 states celebrate Arbor Day, it was federally proclaimed in
1970 by President Nixon to celebrate Arbor Day the last Friday in
April. In California Arbor Day is celebrated March 7-14, our State Tree
is the "California Redwood."
