Author Talk- SSF Historical Society presents - Robert Cherny: “Victor Arnautoff and the Politics of Art”

Monday, March 20, 2017

Robert Cherny, author of Victor Arnautoff and the Politics of Art, is the featured presenter at the Historical Society of South San Francisco’s next quarterly program and general meeting on Monday, March 20th, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Magnolia Senior Center, 601 Grand Avenue, South San Francisco.

Please join the Society at an interactive author talk with Cherny as he discusses his forthcoming biography on a leading West Coast modernist, Victor Arnautoff, who reigned as San Francisco’s leading mural painter during the New Deal era. “Delving into sources on Russian émigrés and San Francisco's arts communities, Cherny traces Arnautoff's life from refugee art student and assistant to Diego Rivera to prominence in the New Deal's art projects and a faculty position at Stanford University.” Arnautoff’s work can be seen throughout the Bay Area including the South San Francisco Post Office at 322 Linden Avenue.  Mr. Cherny is Professor Emeritus of History, San Francisco State University.   This program is co-sponsored by the South San Francisco Public Library and is free and open to all.

Homemade desserts, coffee and sherbet punch will be served at a reception after the program.
