Water Rescue

SSF Rescue Boat The mission of the South San Francisco Fire Department Water Rescue division is to provide emergency service capabilities on the water in the San Francisco Bay, with a focus on San Mateo County and the waters off the shore of South San Francisco.  These emergency services include but are not limited to Search and Rescue, Advance Life Support and minor Fire Suppression activities.  Towards these goals the South San Francisco Fire Department will work diligently to foster relationships, train alongside and assist the United States Coast Guard, San Mateo County Fire Agencies, San Mateo County Harbor Master and other neighboring agencies in order to create a unified and coordinated service. 

The City of South San Francisco maintains a 23 foot, T-top, Safe-Boat.  This boat is an aluminum V-hull with foam collars.  It is propelled by two 200 horsepower, 4 stroke motors and is equipped with GPS, Radar, Depth gauge and Forward looking infrared camera.  This is a 24 hour resource with the ability to respond in inclement weather of up to six foot swells as well as the limited visibility of night operations and bay area fog.
