Loan Period
The loan period is 3 weeks for most library materials. DVDs and most magazines are loaned for one week. To serve as many people as possible, restrictions may apply to the number of items of a particular type that can be borrowed at one time.

Requesting Library Materials
Materials from any of the 34 public or community college libraries in San Mateo County my be requested through your account on the online catalog by placing a hold.

Holds are free of charge. Items placed on hold will be delivered to the library of your choice for pickup. 

Renewing Library Materials
Most materials may be renewed up to five times if there are no holds on the materials. To renew without coming to the library, call TELECIRC (650) 638-0399 or use the online catalog.

Materials Considered Late
Materials are considered late if they are not returned by midnight of the due date. Items returned through the after hours book drop on the due date will be checked in as of the date of return even if the book drop is not emptied until the next day.

Returning Library Materials
Most library materials may be returned at any of the 34 public or community college libraries in San Mateo County. An after hours book drop is available for the return of items when the library is closed.

Fines & Fees
Adult materials: 25¢/day per item maximum $8 per item. (As a courtesy, seniors who are residents of SSF are not charged overdue fines on SSF materials).

Children's materials: 15¢/day per item maximum $3.90 per item.

* First library card - FREE; Replacement for a library card - $1
* Inter-library loan non-refundable fee is payable at time of request. The fee is $3.00 per item for South San Francisco residents and $5.00 per item for non-residents
* Lost/Damaged items - Cost of item plus a $5 processing fee

Fees can be paid in the library at the Library Payment Center or Express Checks or online. Visa, Mastercard, cash, or check accepted. For a full listing of Library fines and fees, please review the Master Fee Schedule.

Cardholders have access to downloadable audio and text e-books through our digital collections. Click here for more information.

Accessing Library Databases
South San Francisco Public Library offers access to many electronic databases on a variety of topics from the arts and humanities to science and technology. Many of these databases include full-text articles.
Please note that many databases can be accessed from outside the Library but will still require you to enter your Library card number and PIN. Click on the link browse the available databases.
