PepsiCo very generously donated $10,000 toward this program. Plus, thanks to the hard work of 25 Pepsico employees, one day of team effort resulted in a major transformation; the formerly blighted dwelling turned into the "Green X-Ray House." Tom Melead, a technical manager for Frito Lay, helped build the deck. He said it was a way to "give back to the community."

On Volunteer Day in early October 2008 PepsiCo employees worked inside the gutted house applying fresh coats of eco-friendly paint and restoring the old kitchen cabinets. In the backyard, they built a deck made of 100% recycled material and laid down a synthetic lawn. PepsiCo' s belief is that as a corporate citizen, they have a responsibility to contribute to the quality of life in our communities. This philosophy is expressed in their sustainability vision which states: "PepsiCo's responsibility is to continually improve all aspects of the world in which we operate - environment, social, economic -- creating a better tomorrow than today.
