 Amateur (or HAM) radio, which relies on battery operated equipment, has made a difference in recent disaster situations where telephone, cell service and internet have failed.   In the event such as a major earthquake, normal communications system could be out for several days.   

The SSF CERT HAM radio group consists of licensed amateur radio operators who operate and train under the guidance of our city's fire department.  This group has weekly meetings which include radio check-ins, drills and training.  

Come and see the SSF CERT HAM radio group in action:  

  • What:  Field Day, A public event to educate and showcase HAM radio and what it can do
  • When:  Fourth Saturday in June, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
  • Where:   Fire Station 61, 480 North Canal Street, South San Francisco.
